One of the most popular travel options for students in an online marketing degree program is to get out and explore a destination through backpacking. I mean, let’s face it, students and backpacking go hand-in-hand. Whether you are a seasoned pro when it comes to backpacking, or you’re looking to take your first trip, you will want to take a look at these tips. The tips are meant to make your adventure truly memorable whilst pursuing a marketing degree online.
A big mistake that people often end up falling victim to is that they pack far too much in their bag. Think about it, you’ll be carting that backpack everywhere and you don’t want it to weigh you down and hinder you from having fun. In reality, you will probably just use a few key items the whole time anyway, so taking things “just in case” doesn’t make sense.
It is suggested that you pack your bag and then put it on. Wear it around your house for a good hour. How does it feel? There’s a good chance it will be far too heavy on that first try. Now it’s time to go back and take at least one third of the items out. You can then repeat the exercise of wearing it in the house. It may take a couple of tries before you are able to get it down to an acceptable weight.
When it comes to your clothes, you’ll want to pack lightweight items that can be packed down small. A good tip is to layer your clothes for warmth and then you can take off layers as it heats up. You will also want to choose fabrics that are easy to wash and quick to dry. Where you want to spend a little extra money is in your footwear. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes that also offer a good grip.
Don’t Pack Sentimental or Expensive Items
Heading out on a backpacking adventure is not the time to also bring with you sentimental items or items that cost a lot of money. It’s a good idea to leave your jewelry at home, grab a reliable inexpensive watch instead, and have the peace of mind that everything will be at home waiting for you safe and sound. Items can get lost, damaged, or stolen while on vacation, so why take the chance?
Carry a First-Aid Kit
One thing you will want to be sure to include in your backpack is a first aid kit. It doesn’t need to be large and bulky, just the basics will do.
Plan in Advance
While it’s great to just kind of take things as they come and explore as you want, it’s also important to create at least some sort of plan. You can leave this plan/itinerary with a loved one so that someone will know where to reach you in case of emergency. Checking in along the way is also very wise.
Get Out and Explore
By keeping these simple tips in mind you’ll be ready to get out and explore and have fun in the process.
