Whether you are travelling with your family, your partner or alone, Florida offers an incredible array of days out and activities for everyone and it can be difficult to decide which of those activities you will do. With the greatest will in the World, there simply isn’t enough time, even on a 2 week holiday, to cram it all in. To help you, I’ve listed my favourite 4 things to do in the Sunshine State.
Everglades National Park
The Everglades is a National Park that covers over 1.5 million acres of wetlands and forest, it houses incredible flora and fauna and the landscape is beautiful. Visiting the Everglades is best done on one of the specially designed aerofoil crafts, similar to a hover boat which glides over both land and water and gives you the best chance to see the Everglades in all of their glory. The wildlife you can see here consists of hundreds of species of birds, alligators, crocodiles, the Florida panther, sea turtles and manatees. The Everglades is a place like no other and if you want to escape the madness of Florida then this is the perfect place to do it.
Sea World Florida is another ‘must’ on the list of places to go, within it’s grounds they house some of the most amazing marine life in the World and give you an opportunity to see animals that many of us will never get the chance to see in their natural habitat. The way Sea World presents the animals is wonderful for all of the family, with dolphin shows, a stingray lagoon where you can actually touch the stingrays and of course the impressive great whale show. A trip to Sea World isn’t just exciting but educational too and the staff here love to teach everyone about the ways of each of the animals, truly fascinating.
No trip to Florida would be complete without a trip to the Disney World complex in Orlando, consisting of 4 theme parks which are set in a 30,000 acre complex that is filled with restaurants, bars, hotels, wildlife, live shows, movie theatres and of course, all of your favourite Disney characters. You will need at least of couple of days at the park to truly experience all that it has to offer, and even then you’ll probably have to miss bits out so my advice would be plan ahead. If you go on a holiday in Orlando then without doubt you should take the family to Disney World in Florida, you will not regret it and the kids will remember it forever.
Kennedy Space Centre
The Kennedy Space Centre is a combination of a space research institution and an active launch site for space missions and within it’s grounds is a must-visit visitor complex. The visitor centre provides guests with the chance to learn all about space, the missions that we have taken to get there and a museum of artefacts from the moon landings and other expeditions. Also here is the hall of fame of astronauts where you can learn all about the brave astronauts who have took to the skies since the birth of space travel. If you wanted to be an astronaut when you were young, or perhaps still do, then the space centre is where you should go.
