I recently took a trip from the UK and as it was around the holiday season the prices for flights had gone sky high. Like many others who look to keep the cost of their flights down, I opted for some connections with different airlines rather than go direct. I was happy with the price that I got but it did result in some rather long connections in both Gatwick and McCarran airport, 5 and 7 hours respectively. I planned pretty well for my time in the airports and I wanted to talk today about the things that you can do in order to pass your time on a long airport layover.
One of my favorite ways to pass the time is playing games on my mobile or tablet, there are few times where you can steal the opportunity to play games for a few hours without anything else more important to do. Almost all major airports these days have plenty of places where you can charge up your devices as well as wifi which means that you can play online pokies games and lots of other online games where you can win prizes, trophies or even a bit of cash whilst you are waiting.
Can You Reach the City?
A great option you should look at if you have lots of time to kill in the airport is whether you can reach the nearest town or city. During my time in Vegas I managed to get 3 hours on the strip, it was nice to experience it and I was back in the airport with plenty of time in hand for my upcoming flight. Vancouver was another place where I had a layover last year and they have a fast skytrain which goes directly in to the city in 15 minutes. You won’t always be able to reach the nearest town or city and you’ll have to bear in mind travel time and time to get through security etc. If you’re able to do it though you’ll get a chance to see a bit of a different city and kill some time in the process.
If you make sure that you plan ahead then you can download some movies to watch during your layover. If you have a lot of time to pass then you could look at downloading a long movie to pass the time. Alternatively you could download a TV box set to watch in the airport, many of the video viewing platforms online like Netflix will give you the chance to download films and TV shows to view offline. I would definitely recommend that you download something as even though airports do have wifi which is strong enough to play games, they are most certainly not strong enough to stream TV or movies. So remember, plan ahead with your downloads then simply find yourself a comfy chair to sit back and relax in the airport with a movie.
