Quick, break out the bikini – the sun is out and it’s time to strut your funky stuff. That said, the season is no excuse for looking a hot mess under the hot rays. Keep it sexy and simple this summer, and whatever you do avoid our list of what not to wear this summer.
The wrong frames for your face
Now look, the vintage or retro look is absolutely hot this season but make sure you get the right shape in this season’s sunglasses. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror and decide what shape face you have – round, oblong, oval, square, or heart-shaped. Then look at choosing a classic pair (Ray Ban glasses will never go out of style) and choose some that keep both your face in proportion and your eyes well-protected.
There is literally no excuse for this. It makes the classiest of outfits look a little sloppy and whatever you’re wearing there is a bra out there that can help! Invest in a good strapless little number this summer and you can rock most looks without flashing your elastic. If you’re on a budget then consider investing in a multi-way, remove and remodel the connecting bits on the bra and you’ll often get up to seven different ways to wear it. Straps be gone!
Leopard-print has its place in high fashion and you’ll definitely see it on the catwalks of Milan and Paris – just not from top to toe. If you love the look then focus on a couple of really fierce pieces, maybe a well-made bikini, something gorgeous and textured in a top or pair of shorts or even a great pair of sunglasses. Even a floaty scarf with a touch of zebra can add a touch of class to an outfit – just leave the all-over stripes or spots for the zoo.
Many people hit the gym a little bit harder in the leadup to a big summer holiday but be honest with yourself – is that really your size. Style is a lot about fitting and it doesn’t really matter if you’re a size 8 or a 28, you can look amazing as long as you choose the wardrobe your body needs, not the one you want. Don’t let the fantastic outfit you’ve lovingly put together be ruined by bulges, bits or your need to constantly readjust. You can be fabulous whatever size you are, just embrace it and you’ll look great in your own skin.
Denim on denim
This is apparently one that annoys the fashionistas more than most. Just because Kim Kardashian is rocking it, it doesn’t mean it works for everyone! This throwback from the 80’s is making a comeback but if you’re giving it a go then mix and match different washes, perhaps acid shorts with a dark denim tie up. The all-blue look is just not big, not clever and best left in 1985. You have been warned!
It’s simple stuff but these few changes can keep you looking slick this summer. Keep these in mind and when you’re lining up for your best beach selfie you’ll look hotter than the summer sunshine.
