It’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement of a holiday, to the point of forgetting all the little added bits and bobs that are needed to not only enhance the whole thing, but also to make sure you remain safe and looked after.
Sunshine might be the main winner in all of this, but if you lose your luggage, still staring at the carousel going around, with your case never making an appearance, you’l0l be glad you took out that holiday insurance – you did remember to book that, right?
See what I mean about the added extras? A lot of the time we don’t even think of these things, but forget them and they’ll suddenly become the most important things in the world!
Holiday insurance is one of subjects that people put off, because it’s not something you can see, so therefore it’s no fun. However, in case of an emergency, such as a medical problem, lost money or lost luggage, for a small excess payment, you’ll be covered. Just remember to look into policies and their small print carefully before purchasing, and remember to declare any existing medical conditions, to ensure your cover isn’t terminated for something you forgot to mention.
Your health is all important so be sure check with your GP in case you need any additional vaccinations, if you’re heading off the beaten track. Wherever your travels are taking you however, always make sure your regular injections are up to date, such as tetanus and polio etc – that’s just good sense! If you’re heading somewhere that is a malaria risk, check about malaria tablets in good time, as you may need to take them for a period of time before you jet off, as well as whilst you’re there.
Health taken care of, insurance sorted out, all that’s left to do is plan that trip to the maximum! I’d recommend doing a bit of pre-research on your destination, giving you an idea of the places you might like to go and the excursions that are available. This way, you won’t miss out on anything. I’m not suggesting you plan every second of your holiday, but an idea of certain sights you don’t want to miss will mean every box is ticked and you won’t have any ‘what if’ moments.
The airport experience is also one that should be enjoyed, and the last time I went away I decided to book into an airport lounge, meaning I got to truly relax whilst waiting for boarding. Food and drink is complimentary and it’s easy to chill out! Lounges are available at many airports nationwide, check out this list of Gatwick departures and see what’s available at your terminal.
Don’t forget those little extras prior to your holiday, not only will you be glad your mind is rested, but in case of a true emergency, you won’t have to worry. All that’s left to do is relax and enjoy!
